El Salvador’s Bitcoin Day Is the Future of Money

In the U.S., Tuesday marked the return to work after the long Labor Day weekend. But in El Salvador, it was Bitcoin Day. The Central American country celebrated the first day it officially recognized bitcoin as legal tender. It’s the first nation in the world to do so. Starting on Tuesday, Salvadorans could use a digital wallet app on their smartphone called Chivo to shop at stores and restaurants around the country. To help kick off Bitcoin Day, the El Salvador government gave $30 in bitcoin to everyone who signed up on the app. It also installed 200 ATMs that[…]

The SEC Won’t Let Me Be, Shopify Stupefies & Intel’s Government Pension

What A Tangled Web We Weave… Great Ones, today we’re talking about billionaire investor Mark Cuban and his spat with the SEC. But first … did y’all see the new Spider-Man: No Way Home teaser trailer? Spoiler alert! I’ve watched this trailer way too many times, which directly shows (or hints at) the following appearances: Dr. Strange, Doc Ock, Green Goblin, Electro, Sandman, Lizard and Black Suit Spider-Man. What in the name of Madam Web is going on?! This looks epic! Kudos, Sony (NYSE: SONY) and Disney (NYSE: DIS). All right … Mark Cuban is no Spider-Man. OK, maybe he’s[…]

Home Prices Aren’t in a Bubble

Over the past few months, there has been an influx of doom-and-gloom articles claiming home prices are in a bubble. Frankly, I don’t think the claims could be further from reality. That’s because measuring value is all about perspective. When compared to historical home prices, current home prices may seem expensive. In fact, the Shiller Home Price Index is 38% higher than it was at the height of the 2006 housing bubble. But if you consider factors like rising rent prices, wage inflation and a rapidly expanding money supply, the housing market has been modest in recent years. In the[…]

Invest Early With This Elite CEO for More Gains Ahead

Today’s Take: The right CEO makes all the difference. Warren Buffett says that CEOs aren’t selected like Olympic teams. There’s no uniformity in top quality. Yet investors treat them as if they’re all the same, like lightbulbs. If Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, Microsoft’s Bill Gates or Google’s Larry Page were starting a new venture … all you’d need to do is tell me where to send the check to. You wouldn’t even have to tell me what business they were going into. It really wouldn’t matter to me. I know they’d be successful based on their track records. That’s because I’ve[…]

What’s Behind the Recent Ethereum Rally

One of the first principles they teach in any Economics 101 course is that price is a function of supply and demand. Put simply… When supply is decreasing and demand stays constant, prices go up. When supply is increasing and demand stays constant, prices go down. The price of any good or service arrives at the intersection of supply and demand. This simple economic concept explains Ethereum’s recent price rise and why it could be setting up for a big rally into the end of the year… Ethereum’s Huge Upgrade Ethereum’s price is rising because there’s increasing demand and diminishing[…]

AAPL vs TSLA = America 1.0 vs America 2.0

Every time we talk Apple, we get a bit of backlash on YouTube and Twitter. A little debate isn’t a bad thing, right?! Simply put, here’s how we see the two: Apple (AAPL) = America 1.0. Tesla (TSLA) = America 2.0. Tesla continues to innovate, stacking mega trends and creating new themes for the future. Apple focuses on buying back its own stock and hasn’t really innovated since Steve Jobs. We have to look forward at where the world is going, not back. Paul and Ian even lay out the AAPL Death Star effect it has on the market and[…]

We Asked, You Answered: 3D-Printed Meat

Welcome to a special mailbag edition of Smart Profits Daily! Earlier this week, research analyst Steve Fernandez wrote an article titled “Would You Eat 3D-Printed Meat?” (If you didn’t get a chance to read it, catch up by clicking here.) The topic is red-hot, as alternate meat sources are trending among consumers today. Beyond Meat (which is plant-based) enjoyed its brief time in the sun over the past few years. Even fast-food chains jumped on the trend, with Burger King serving the Impossible Whopper. But why is it so trendy to move away from the good ol’ days of “Beef:[…]

$70 Million Ransomware Demand Shocks the World

First, cybercriminals hacked the Colonial Pipeline, causing gas shortages across the southeastern U.S. Then they hacked JBS, a global meat producer, shutting down all of its U.S. beef plants. Now they’re at it again, with the largest and most sophisticated ransomware attack in history taking place over the Fourth of July weekend. Rather than target businesses directly, a Russian cybercrime gang hacked management software firms around the world, such as Miami-based Kaseya. It then used the firms’ software to infiltrate their clients’ computer networks. All told, up to 1,500 companies and organizations were disrupted by the attacks, including schools, grocery[…]

This Janitor’s Secret $8 Million Fortune Could Help You Create Your Own

Today’s Take: Only invest in what you understand — for the long term. He used a safety pin to close his fraying denim jacket. At the local Friendly’s, other patrons would pay for his meal. They thought he couldn’t afford them. Ron Read grew up on a farm in Vermont, walking four miles to school every day. He was the first to graduate high school in his family. Not long after, he joined the army to fight in World War II. When he returned, he worked for the next 25 years as a gas station attendant. After he retired for[…]
