On a Rough Day for the Markets, Beyond Meat Continues to Soar

This year has already seen several high profile initial public offerings and the results have been mixed. Ride-sharing giants Uber (UBER) and Lyft (LYFT) have been disappointing so far with both trading below the IPO price. Uber has been holding steady, down just about 3%, but shares of Lyft currently trade lower by more than 20%. Other 2019 IPOs are still performing well, Zoom Video (ZM) and Levi Strauss (LEVI) are still solidly positive since offering shares to the public for the first time, but Beyond Meat (BYND) has been the best performer, with its shares now trading more than[…]

Stock Buyback Frenzy: Was This An Effective Use of Capital?

A record number of firms have been repurchasing their own shares off the public market in an attempt to utilize cash effectively. Companies bought back over $1 trillion of their own stock in 2018 with the new tax bill perpetuating this recent trend. Q1 of this year was no exception to that trend with 80% of S&P 500 firms reporting stock repurchases this past quarter, totaling $180 billion in value. Companies leading this trend include tech giants like Apple (AAPL), Oracle (ORCL), and Cisco Systems (CSCO), as well as big banks like Wells Fargo (WFC), Bank of America (BAC) and[…]

In this article I will look at the other side of the stock buybacks, including execs looking for short-term stock[…]

So far in Q1, over 80% of S&P 500 companies had reported stock repurchases this past quarter, with an overall repurchase of $180 billion worth of equity. The question that we, as investors may have is, what implications does a stock buyback have on me[…]

A Big Deal Reignites Cannabis Stocks

Late last Thursday, during the final trading session of a holiday-shortened week, Canadian Cannabis company Canopy Growth Corp (CGC) announced that it had reached an agreement to purchase 100% of US cannabis investment company Acreage Holdings in a uniquely structured deal. It’s a sign that the industry has come a long way in a very short time since the phrase “big marijuana deal” meant something else entirely… Though the industry seems ripe for consolidation – with huge, established players with cash to spend hungrily eyeing smaller upstarts who have interesting intellectual property or market position – the patchwork of cannabis[…]
